Leadership Program: DanceStep
The DanceStep Leadership Program at RSD
DanceStep Leadership Program
The DanceStep Leadership Program is an exciting opportunity for students aged 11 and up to grow as role models, leaders, and valuable members of our dance community. This progressive program goes beyond dance, focusing on building essential life skills like communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. Students gain confidence as they learn how to assist in classes, manage responsibilities, and support their peers. DanceStep empowers young dancers to take on leadership roles within the studio and beyond, fostering personal growth, resilience, and a sense of belonging. It’s the perfect way for students to develop both on and off the dance floor!

Benefits to the Dance Students
- Understanding Behind the Scenes
Students gain insight into what it means to be a dance teacher, including the many varied tasks involved—some they might not even know exist! - Support for First Job Roles and Work Experience
Students are guided through tasks like writing applications, and at higher levels, participating in interviews—all within a safe and supportive environment. - Leadership Opportunities for All
The program provides equal opportunities for all students to grow as leaders. It’s often surprising who thrives in this environment, as it inspires every dancer to explore the many roles within a dance studio and beyond. -
Growth in Confidence
This program enhances self-esteem and provides a platform for students to shine beyond technical dancing ability. Dedication, not perfection, is key, giving every student a chance to feel successful and valued. - Encourages Giving Back
Students develop a sense of ownership, pride, and responsibility within their studio. They’re empowered to care for others and contribute positively to their dance community.
“I have found that I am a natural born leader and have been told this by others but I used to be so shy when it came to teaching young students, with Dancestep I have definitely gained alot of confidence. I have enjoyed getting to work with lots of different students of multiple ages and dance genres. If there is anything that I have learnt in becoming a dance teacher is not to be afraid to use a more assertive tone and that it’s ok to use it.”
“Something I have enjoyed about DanceStep was watching the little kids progress, learn and connect with each other. I learnt that you always have to be punctual (or early) for the little dancers. Being a Dancestep leader is really fun and interesting experience and I am excited for next year and learning more!”
“Something I have learnt this year is how to transition between exercises and how to introduce new moves/exercises/dances to a class, and also when an exercise isn’t working or the kids aren’t focused . I also have learned how to connect with people better outside of the class (interacting with parents/guardians/adults, as well as students).”
